eMAR e-Maritime strategic framework and pilot implementation

In eMAR the next generation e-maritime infrastructure (a collaborative service environment) is viewed as a complex, adaptive and self-managed system that will provide not only technological services, including connectivity and security, but also shared information and knowledge, thus making it easier to participate or foster digital inclusion for maritime participants (e.g. seafarers) and manage collaboration between public and private parties.

The eMAR vision is to provide a business-ready service-oriented infrastructure empowering the European maritime sector in offering quality shipping services over an upgraded maritime transport information management infrastructure. The related technical vision is to use the paradigm of SOA, which will provide to the eMAR infrastructure key characteristics such as reliability, flexibility and ability for automated application lifecycle management, in order to administer a complete business/IT e-maritime service stack in correlation with service level agreements which are defined at business and technical level.

Specifically eMAR users will be able to:

  • View, comment on, use the EMSF process and service models;
  • Publish and use e-Maritime services using the eMAR Ecosystem covering all aspects of business and administration collaborative applications
  • Integrate Service Level Agreements in e-Maritime Services;
  • Develop composite applications integrating e-Maritime Services with their existing applications.

The eMAR approach will assist the EU maritime transport sector to develop capabilities for managing highly dynamic business systems serving a wide range of stakeholder interests. It will help public and business organisations face up to the challenge of transforming to Real Time Enterprises by creating collectively an e-Maritime software platform supporting ‘trusted’ interconnection of services across the sector to support enhanced productivity, learning and innovation.
